These last two days have been a blast! I haven't played Pokémon at all, but I did go to the University of Kentucky Merit Weekend! Cam and I got to sign up for classes early there so we don't have to worry about classes being full or anything. Actually, since we were at the first Merit Weekend, we were the VERY first to sign up! As you can tell with all of the exclamation marks, I'm extremely excited about registering for my classes and being able to see what I'm going to be taking in college and at what times.
Right before I left to go to UK for Merit Weekend, I received a letter from UK saying that all I received was the Presidential Scholarship from them. This is still a lot of money (~$8,500), but I was still keeping my hopes up for the Singletary Scholarship. I was happy with the knowledge of what scholarships I had though.
After stopping at the hotel room to drop off our luggage, we headed right for the campus. When we arrived, we received a folder and a back-sack that were filled with confusing information. Truthfully, I haven't gone through everything yet. Many of these things are just pamphlets of what things go on at UK. Anyways, there was an introductory presentation, and then we got to go to our section's presentation in another building. Cam's and my section was engineering. This was probably the most confusing part of the entire weekend!
I got a class schedule template that was filled out with just some recommended classes and was told to fill out the times by today. We were never given class time-sheets though. This was fixed today when the counsellors actually gave us the sheets. Filling them out today was very fun though! It sounds nerdy, but being able to pick what classes I wanted and when they were was something that I had never done before. In high school, I got to pick classes, but I never got to pick times or what days to have them. The day also always started at 8:00... which was terrible. I don't like early mornings; I love my sleep.
The counsellors were very helpful throughout the entire process, and I'm glad they were there to tell us what classes were necessary to graduate for each major. I also found out the the Honors College at UK takes care of most of my humanities/gen. ed. courses! I still have to take a "global citezenship" course, but it will be easy. I'm thinking of pre-1868 Japanese culture; it's basically about the medieval Japanese culture. This course will be offered in the Spring semester, and that's when I'm taking it. The only thing left for me to do is pass the AP Calculus and Chemistry exams that way I don't have to take them in college.
So all-in-all, this weekend has been very productive, helpful, and exciting! I'm happy to have myself registered for classes and know what I have to do now: band audition and Honors Program LLC application. These should be a piece of cake though. Unless it's a lie...

Pokémon White!
I got Pokémon White a few days ago (Sunday), and I haven't been able to stop playing! Well, I left it with my girlfriend (Shannon) for a night so she could trade starters around from her new games on Pokémon Black. She started 3 new games and I received an Oshawott and Pansear, and she received an Oshawott, Pansear, Snivy, and Panpour. I started out with a Tepig and got Pansage later on. I always start with a fire Pokémon, it's just what I do.
I am on Route 4 at the moment, but I'm going to get through the game quicker once the new trimester of school starts and there aren't all these deadlines for grades (especially Spanish AP). As for why I chose White: it's because I wanted the black Pokémon (Zekrom). Simple as that. It works out very well that Shannon wanted Reshiram and thus bought Black.
That pretty much makes up these last three days. I'm working on some Spanish that is due tomorrow night at 12:00. Cam (my best friend) is going to spend the night over tomorrow so we can leave for Merit Weekend at UK without having to drop his Landrover off from school. I am pretty excited for Merit Weekend because I can almost feel what it's like to be in college. We are going to sign up for classes and take a Spanish placement test (mostly just for fun) as well as go to some college-help seminars. Those will be so much fun... Ups and Downs
I was really nervous today about giving my speech for the Rotary Club. They have an annual speech competition, but I wasn't ready at all. I had my speech typed and printed out, but it was barely memorized. I arrived about thirty minutes early and was able to use that time to practice it a little bit, but nowhere near enough. The chapter leader had the two speakers flip a coin, and I got to go first. Yay. When I finished, I thought I did terrible, but my dad and girlfriend's mom said that I did great. So did the other speaker when I was finished. In the end, I got second place and $75 in a check though. I'm just happy to have it done!
On another note though, I received an email from the KFC scholarship application saying, "We regret to inform you that you have not been selected to advance." This compounded with the fact that the UK Office of Academic Scholarships hasn't emailed me back about the Singletary Scholarship (full ride + $1500) has made me a little bit worried at how I'm going to pay for college. I'm not really angry at the KFC scholarship people, but I am a little bit angry at the UK scholarship people. My friend said that her mom called and they said that emails were sent out for interviews on February 10th, but neither her nor I received a "yes" or "no" answer as to whether we will move on. First Post (Who I am, etc.)
I wanted to start a blog for a while now. I have had this one for quite a bit, but I never added any posts, and it turned out to just be something that sounded cool at the time, yet became boring. This isn't necessarily to get a lot of attention and to get people to say, "I wish I had his life," narcissistic type stuff. I just want to write about what's happening in my life so I can look back and reflect upon it later. If you feel like commenting, I won't mind that though!
As for what I am like, I am fairly intelligent (or so I think), yet I know that there are some that are way smarter than me. I got a 33 on my ACT (35 Math: woohoo!), and have a 3.88 in high school, so that is what I'm basing it on now. As a senior at the moment, I can't wait to get to college though! I have been accepted at the University of Kentucky and have about $15,000 out of the ~$21,000 cost to attend mostly from scholarships. I am planning on double-majoring in Computer Engineering & Mechanical Engineering there with a minor in Computer Science. I have also applied to MIT, but I don't believe that I will make it in. I am a little wary of going there because most of my college money is coming from KEES money and UK scholarships. I am taking 5 AP courses right now with Spanish being my least favorite and Chemistry/Calculus being my favorite.
A note of warning for this blog though: I might go on rants over seemingly random topics sometimes. These rants are what I truly think, and the blog is named aptly so. These rants won't be temper-tantrums, mud-throwing, or bashing of any group of any sort though. I like to think rationally about what I am going to say, so the same applies to what I write.
